Beartooth Highway 9/24/14

Katie and I made plans for our day off and we said we were just going to go to Lamar Valley. So we headed out that way and vented to each other as well as tell stories of our lives. We had plain old fun in the car with beautiful scenery passing by. We made it to Slough (slew) Creek and had two hitchhikers hop in the bed of the truck trying to get a lift to Warm Creek which was near the northeast entrance, 20 miles, (maybe?), pass Lamar Valley. We made it to Lamar rather quickly and there were only bison grazing in the valley. I said lets go to Cooke City and get some food and Katie agreed. So with a little confusion and some back tracking, we dropped the hitchhikers off at their trail and went to Cooke City.

By the time we got there I said let’s just go on the Beartooth Highway. One again, she agreed and we continued down the road. For those who are unaware, the Beartooth Highway, according to somewhere on the internet, is on a list of the top 10 or 15 highways to drive on, and three of them are in the United States. I apologize in advance for the unnecessary size of the picture, which is why I posted more than one of the view.

It had been two years since the last time I was on the Beartooth Highway. The previous time was in my friends Le Baron with my roommate Jody. Katie and I managed to go a little further then when Jody and I were on it, but due to poor planning, gas was a problem so had to turn around earlier than we both had hoped. On the way back we managed to only see Bison but by the end of any road trip in Yellowstone, it doesn’t matter because the views are priceless. It’s great to go on a 20 minute drive or longer in Yellowstone and just get lost in nature. It’s very calming and peaceful and you never know what animals you may see. Yellowstone is a surprise every trip I make and that there is a good enough reason to return season after season.
