Beaver ponds is one that I have done many of times. Most recently before this season, I did it in the winter. At that time I had no idea that I had actually made it to the ponds but only assumed. There are pictures from then that shows me up on a slope where a coyote had walked and that had overlooked one of the ponds. I may do beaver ponds once or twice more this season pending what else others want to do.
Here is the second pond of the trail. As we approached the pond sounds of sand hill cranes were heard in the distance and then they quietly flew above our heads. I had hoped for a landing in the water but to my demise it didn't happen. :( After going down the hill we saw two coworkers who told us of a black bear that was near by.
This was during the first week where I was accompanied by new people to the land. Sam and I had lead the our new friends, John, Micaja, Bri and our neighbor Jonny through the woods and found this magical beast sleeping the day away. Many wanted to continue hiking so we went about our way but if was just me; I would stayed for an hour and not 20 minutes...
The lazy bear decided to get up and do something with his life. Here is a picture of the third pond.
Sam and Micaja hiking through some deep snow. There were about four of five spots that had some deep snow or long parts of trail covered in snow. It wasn't anything to be afraid of. We continued on as if it wasn't there in the first place...Okay, there were some parts we decided to walk around it so we wouldn't get our shoes wet.
